How To Repair / Remove 169 Ip Address On A Cable Modem

 



 

Make Sure You Have The Modem Connected Directly To The PC

Bypass The Router If You Have To

 

These Are The Steps To Remove A 169 IP Address

First Check Your Ip Address In The Dos Prompt

Click On Start And Go To Run

After You Go To Run Type In cmd Or command

Click Ok Or Hit Enter

You Will Then Come To A Prompt With A Flashing Curser

Type In ipconfig To Get The Ip Address

 

ipconfig

 

If You Get A 169 Where Ip Address Is You Will Not Be Able To Surf. If You Powercycle Your Modem Or Restart

The PC You Will Usually Get The Same Ip Address.

Take The Coax Cable Off The Modem But Leave The Power And Ethernet Cables Connected.

 

Coax Cable This Is The Only Cable That Should Be Off The Modem

 

Go Back To The Computer

Type In ipconfig /release

You Should Get 0.0.0.0

 

ipconfig release

 

Reconnect The Coax Cable

169 Coax

 

Go Back To The Computer

Type In ipconfig /renew

You Should Get A Good Ip Address And Be Able To Surf.

 

If You Get An Ip With A 192 Reinstall Your Network Card Up To 2 Times In Device Manager

If You Get An Error Or It Takes A Long Time To Complete The Renew Also Reinstall Your Network Card Up To 2 Times In Device Manager

After You Reinstall The Network Card Go Back To cmd And Type In ipconfig You Should Have A Good Ip Address

Repeat ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew if necessary
